Concept art drawn for my short prequel story to Omedia, "Lost in the Chase". The scene depicted isn't actually in the story but the essence of it is. Wrote up a bunch of pretentious-sounding explanations for everything in the drawing, so here it is:
-Kris and his motivations are what move the story forward and so he takes up the most space and focus. Kris' gaze shows that he feels a sense of longing when looking at the broadsword, which represents his dream of being a hero. He’s focused his attention entirely on it.
-Casimir and Sarah are placed in the background, slightly out of focus. Sarah is placed closer since she’s the one who Kris eventually confides in. I wanted Sarah to look at the scene in its entirety while Casimir’s eyes are solely on Kris. She can see the whole picture and recognizes what Kris wants which is why she able to sympathize, while Casimir is simply worried about his best friend and the reason isn’t really important to him.
